6 May 2019
Morehead City, North Carolina
Field Testing Expedition
Join ReefSave on the registered NOAA Research vessel during our testing of some newly built “no-weld” lionfish traps. The boat will depart before 7 A.M. from Olympus Dive Center in Morehead City, North Carolina, which was Voted #1 in North America for Big Marine Life.
Your participation helps to provide the 8 seats needed  to fill the minimum requirements for a trip to go at all.
So, even if you decide just to do fun dives your participation still helps the cause. As long as we have the 8 person minimum, ReefSave gets a boat to test the traps simply funded by diver participation.
Pictured is Dr. Steve Gittings, NOAA Sanctuaries, at the 12 JAN 2019 ReefSave TRAP BUILD I Event in Mechanicsville, VA. after successfully testing the opening and closing of the first hand built “no-weld” lionfish Purse Trap. This trap was hand built by ReefSave volunteers using only a precision “Hickey Bar” and a hand made loop bender mounted on a table vice.

At TRAP BUILD II, 9 & 10 FEB 2019, ReefSave developed the Marc II loop bender which will become portable for use 22 – 29 JUN 2019 in Bequia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
